Default winword.exe Error - Word will only open in safe mode

I installed 2003 on my computer a couple of months ago and it has worked fine
until last weekend, when I did 2 things: (1) I downloaded both the security
update for office which had to do with winword.exe (I think) and (2) I
downloaded a trial version of Office 2007.

Since then, Microsoft Word keeps giving me an error message when I attempt
to open it. When I click on the error message it says something about the
winword.exe and then it asks if I want to report the problem.

After I click on either report the problem or don't report the problem, Word
then asks me if I want to start in safe mode. If I say "no" then it will
just repeat the whole error process over and over again until I finally click
"yes".

So, the only way I can start Word is in safe mode. I went to the disabled
list and it says that nothing has been disabled. However, lots of things are
disabled - all of my shortcuts, macros, etc., but they do not appear on the
disabled list.

I tried doing "detect & repair" and once it finished, nothing changed -
still have the same erorr.

3 days ago I uninstalled 2007, thinking that maybe there was some type of
error, but after I uninstalled it, nothing changed - I still had the same
problem in Word.

All other office programs are functioning properly, except Outlook (but the
error message has to do with Word not functioning properly, as Outlook uses
Word for my word processing.)

I tried doing a system restore on my computer, but that function has never
worked on my computer. But, that has nothing to do with Word not functioning
properly.

I am extremely frustrated and do not want to uninstall 2003 unless
absolutely necessary. I have spent several hours customizing shortcut keys,
auto correct, macros, etc. My Word is extremely customized and I seriously
don't have time to re-do everything again.

Please help me!
