Default Phonetic Guide in Word

I'm using Word 2007 and using the phonetic guide function to insert furigana
over Japanese (kanji) text. But when I'm in print layout view, the one I
usually work in, I get the whole EQ string as well. Is there some way I can
work just inserting the furigana and then seeing only that?
Sorry if it's already been covered elsewhere.
Thanks

Does Shift-F9 (or Alt-F9 for the whole document) switch you out of
View Fields mode there too?
