Unless you mean WordPerfect-style formatting code, which doesn't exist
in Word.

After sending my message, I noticed that it used the WP phrase in its

It was written to point out the ample resources Word offers to make up for
the lack of "Reveal Codes."

Though I can certainly see that the WP users have a point -- to use
the Word alternatives, you need to divert your attention from the text
to a side panel and figure out the correlations.

Rarely do you need to use a task pane, though, given the plethora of
information you can get from toolbars.

More easily in 2003, unless you load up your QAT as we have done; but
even so, you have to look away from the text and interpret the icons.
WP formatting codes are like html markup, appearing right in the line
of text. (I haven't touched WP in years; presumably it now makes it
possible to work in WYSIWYG!)
