Default Unidentified word character

I'm trying to edit a word doc, (word 2003 on WINXP), but I have a character
it doesn't recognize.
It looks like a paragraph sign (large "P") but a search for "^p" does not
find it. what might it be?

Perhaps it's an actual pilcrow character? If so, use ^v ("¶ Paragraph
character" from the Special list). Or you can try selecting the character
and pasting it into the dialog.

But if the ¶ is actually causing a paragraph break, it may be a sort of line
break in disguise. If that's the case, try using ^013 instead.
