Default Main Toolbar

How do I get what I call the main toolbar to stay displayed while working on
a document? It used to do that by default. Now, if I click on "Home" the
toolbar comes up but when I execute a command (e.g., change the font size or
underline something) it goes behind the document. So, to do any significant
editting, I now have to go back and forth to the toolbar through the "Home"
button.

Double-click any of the tabs; that will turn off the Minimize the Ribbon
setting.
