Even my tech friend cant figure this one out.
Every time I save a Word Doc in the newer format *.docx it dose strange things to the thumbnail. If the file consists of only text it looks normal, but if I incert a picture, even a very small one it saves in a landscape mode. It doesnt rotate, just changes the size of the thumbnail. If I delete the pic or save it in a 2003 it goes back to normal portrate. Whats going on here? I checking the orientation set to portrate, deleting the Normal.dotm Template, repair from the CD and rebuilding the cache file that keeps all the thumbnails but no luck. I also copied files back and fourth to another computer and they appeared correct on other machines. When I rebuilt the thumbnail cache it actually took older 2007 files that had look correct in portrate and also coverted them to this weard stretched landscape vew as well. Is this a bug in Word? Cant seem to find any info on thumbnails going landscape. Any solutions? |

There is no Microsoft here. Just your peers.
And, what question would that be? (since you've snipped all of your post). If it were a simple thumbnails question, wouldn't you already know the answer? Therefore, it must not be that simple. "Ucan" wrote in message news ![]() : : |

Wow, bitchy comment, care to offer some help instead of just making snarky
remarks? You know its easy for doctor to tell if you have cancer but hard to diagnose on your own. That is what I meant by my post. There have got to be a lot of tech savvy people here that might know whats going of which I am not. So to my original question, anyone ever see this happen where file thumbnails are saved in landscape and change back to portrait based on the content of the word doc? |

That is what I meant by my post. There have got to be a lot of tech savvy people here that might know what’s going of which I am not. On the contrary, it was you who started with the "snarky remarks" and "bitchy comments" when you posted your second note as if it were your absolute right to get an answer within twenty-four hours. All help here is volunteered, and there are no guarantees. So to my original question, anyone ever see this happen where file thumbnails are saved in landscape and change back to portrait based on the content of the word doc? Not everyone can see all of the previous posts in a thread. Some use the web, others use an assortment of different newsreaders. Even here, it isn't clear what your symptoms are without going back and finding your original post. When you reply (even to yourself), please autoquote (if available) or copy the appropriate parts of the previous message(s). To reiterate your symptom - the windows explorer thumbnails for Word 2007 .docx documents appear in portrait (NOT portrate) mode unless a picture has been inserted, in which case it appears in landscape mode. Now thumbnails are normally square, and have no vertical or horizontal orientation. Are you saying that the icon inside the thumbnail now looks like a landscape document? Or does the thumbnail display the CONTENT of your document 'sideways'? Either way, it IS peculiar. Different third-party addons and different operating systems display different content in thumbnails. What OS ARE you using? - Character PS - I'd STRONGLY suggest that you make extensive use of a spell-checker - even for newsgroup and forum postings. An occasional misspelling or typo is unavoidable, but there's a point at which you lose credibility and your material becomes difficult to read. |

Thanks for your response, to answer your questions, the thumbnail is square
as you say, but within that square space the image gets stretched horizontally as if it was a landscape. The image is actually distorted at that point. If I open the document and remove any inserted pictures and resave, bingo, it goes back to a normal looking icon where the image is more vertical to match the paper size. Just doesnt make sense. The OS is Windows Vista Ultimate. Microsoft Word 2007.
