When saving Word 2007 documents to a Windows 2000 server, the documents can
not be re-opened by double clicking on the icon. You have to right click on
the document and then choose OPEN to view the document.

This is a Windows file association issue. Ask in A Windows 2000 Server forum
how to associate docx files.

Try holding down Shift while right clicking and choose "Open with...".
From the Open With dialog box you should be able to select Word as well
as checking the "Always use the selected program to open this kind of
file" option.

Yes it is a file association issue but on the client being used to access the
file not the server (unless you are logged into the server interactively of
course)
