Default Icon associated with Word changed..has the W plus a bunch 's?

My icons associated with files...the one with the "W" for Word, "X" for
Excel, etc ...now have a bunch of white arrows () on blue that basically
cover the "W" or the "X"....anyone know how to get rid of them? When I go to
properties...the icon is there with the arrows, but it says to open with Word
(and has the usual Word icon)
