It sounds like you have accidentally enabled the "Tab Stop" feature in Microsoft Word. This feature allows you to align text at specific points on the page, but it can be frustrating if you don't want it. Here's how to turn it off:
If you want to use tabs in the future, just be careful not to accidentally set any tab stops. You can also use the "Tab" key to indent the first line of a paragraph without using tab stops. Simply place your cursor at the beginning of the paragraph and press the "Tab" key once.

Try whether this helps:
In case of Word 2007: Office button Word Options Proofing category AutoCorrect Options button (top right in the dialog box) AutoFormat as You Type tab. Turn off €śSet left- and first-indent with tabs and backspaces€ť. In case of Word 2003: Select Tools AutoCorrect Options "AutoFormat As You Type" tab and turn off "Set left- and first-indent with tabs and backspaces". -- Regards Lene Fredborg - Microsoft MVP (Word) DocTools - Denmark www.thedoctools.com Document automation - add-ins, macros and templates for Microsoft Word "J" wrote: it happens as when i press tab on the sentence and it control the whole paragraph and it aligns to it. I am wondering whether it could be that the function of the Tab key has been
changed by a macro or an add-in. Do you have any macros installed? Do you have any add-ins installed? Currently loaded add-ins are listed in Tools Templates and Add-Ins. -- Regards Lene Fredborg - Microsoft MVP (Word) DocTools - Denmark www.thedoctools.com Document automation - add-ins, macros and templates for Microsoft Word "J" wrote: Hi Lene, That option is already uncheck when i go to that option. Unfortunately, I have no other ideas€¦
It does not harm to try to restore the defaults to find out whether it helps. Most settings will be restored if you follow the two steps below: 1. Exit Word. Find Normal.dot and rename it to e.g. NormalOLD.dot to force Word to create a new Normal.dot. If this does not make any difference, you can revert to the old Normal.dot afterwards. You can find the exact location of Normal.dot via Tools Options File Locations tab. Check the setting for €śUser templates€ť. 2 Rename the Word Data key in the registry. It is located he HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\W ord For details about what the Data key stores, see: http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/Custom...eySettings.htm If that does not make any difference, you can revert to the old to Data key again. -- Regards Lene Fredborg - Microsoft MVP (Word) DocTools - Denmark www.thedoctools.com Document automation - add-ins, macros and templates for Microsoft Word "J" wrote: Hi Lene, nope, no add in install at all. is there a way to reset the formatting to default and does it help if i do that?
