Default Clipboard / Drag&Drop not working

Over the last few weeks both the Office Clipboard and the drag and drop
feature have stopped working. The clipboard shows an error message along the
lines of "Not collected - format not supported" but I'm only trying to copy a
few words from one part of a Word document to another part.

A very clumsy workaround is to have two copies of the document open, one in
Word and one in Wordpad, and then copy from Wordpad into Word - but it's very
clumsy!!

Have run Norton virus scan, Spysweeper, used Regedit to delete the Data key.
Nothing seems to work. Any fresh ideas out there?

The problem affects both my PC running XP Pro SP2 with Office 2002 and my
wife's PC running Vista and Office 2007. Haven't dared try the laptop!
