Default can't see the paste

Word2007. Default view is Print layout.

User scopes something in a pdf file in Adobe reader and copies and pastes
into a blank Word doc. It does not show the paste, only an empty box.
But if the user then changes his layout to full screen, the paste
miraculously appears.

What's the problem here?

Go to Office button Word Options Advanced and scroll down to the
"Show document content" section. The box for "Show picture
placeholders" should be unchecked, and the box for "Show drawings and
text boxes on screen" should be checked.
