Default spelling and grammar checks

I edit academic papers, and make a lot of use of Comments.

Sometimes Word spell-checks text in comment boxes, sometimes not - the same
in the review pane

The same is true of Languange setting - usually it does not affect comment
boxes, which still format text according to an original langauge, not to the
one I want to use.

Why is this?
What can I do to fix these problems?

Make sure that the correct language is specified for the Balloon Text and
Comment Text styles.

Stefan - sorry - previous reply sent itself on tab button - stupid.....

Your note helpful, thanks

But

1 Why doesn't template automatically set comment/balloon text language to
be the same as document langauge? Is there a setting to make it do that?

2 When I reset the ballon text, I found that it affected some comments,
not others - so why does it see some as balloons and others as comments?

3 When I went to reset both, I found them both to Finnish (!). I did work
on a diocument a couple of weeks ago by a Finnish author - so how did the
languages set themsleves to Finnish then (I didn't set them), and how have
they retained that setting, despite the fact that I have worked on about 5
other documents since, in US and Englsih English, as well as by Korean and
Italian authors?

Surely, once you set the language for a document it should set it for all
these subsidiary functions as well - if it's as clever as it says it is!

best

1. There are several possible reasons. By default, the language selection
should be inherited from the Normal style. Perhaps the style may have been
modified by someone. Alternatively, it is a result of "Detect language
automatically" which should be turned off (se 3 below).

2. I believe this is some sort of bug.

3. Turn off "Detect language automatically" in the Language dialog box. To
open the dialog box, click Review tab | Set Language (Word 2007) or Tools |
Language | Set Language (older versions).
