I'm a teacher trying to merge data from a spreadsheet (this data is actually
numerical answers to test questions) into a word document equation. When I insert the field codes into the equation, they initially work when I preview the results, but then what got merged can never be updated - actually the field codes are gone after one preview but the original data imported is permanent text. This problem only occurs with field codes in formulas, all other data is imported just fine. I know that this may be a use of the mail merge feature that was not originally envisioned, but is there some setting/option that can fix this problem? |

Hi Ted,
Mergefields, per se, never survive a mailmerge - by design you only ever get the field results. As for the specifics of your query, do you mean an Equation (EQ) field or a Formula (eg '=' or IF) field? If it's the latter, any IF field tests in mailmerges are always converted to their results - the part(s) of a formula outside the IF test(s) with the largest scope will remain as a field, though. Depending on what you're doing, it may be possible to re-cast the formula without the IF tests. If you care to post the field coding here, I'd be happy to take a look at it and suggest any changes that you might be able to make along those lines. -- Cheers macropod [Microsoft MVP - Word] "Ted S" Ted wrote in message ...
