Greetings, I am merging data from an excel spreadsheet onto labels in Word
(2003). Is there anyway I can restrict a field size to only 5-6 characters rather than the entire cell contents being merged onto the label? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!! |

You can't merge part of a field - You would have to derive a new field in
your excel sheet containing the part of the data you require and merge that field instead. -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org "Cindy" wrote in message ... I was afraid you would say that
![]() creating another table (1 row, 1 column, retricted size) inside the label. It worked perfectly. Thanks. Hi Cindy,
If you put the mergefield into a table cell with a fixed width & height, just sufficient for the # characters you want, that will effectively limit the displayed output to a fixed width (all the data will be in the cell, though, in case it's needed). Do note that, with proportional fonts, the displayed character count will vary according to the individual character widths. -- Cheers macropod [Microsoft MVP - Word] "Cindy" wrote in message ...
