Default key sensitivity

When I key in a capital letter by using my shift key, it often does not come
up as a capital but stays a lower case letter. I think this could be
corrected by adjusting the sensitivity of the shiftkey so that it registers
with the light touch that is normal for me. How do I make such an adjustment?
