TOC Updating
My "Auto updates" are off, but the TOC is still updating before printing and
as far as I know I have all of the updating options off. I am trying to copy and paste out TOCs from multiple documents into one master document and I DON'T want it to update when sent to a printer! ANY help is appreciated - TIA |

If you want to prevent tables of contents from updating, you can unlink the
TOC fields before you copy and paste them. To unlink, make sure the cursor is in the TOC field and then press CTRL+SHIFT+F9. Note that when you unlink a TOC it is converted to plain text. You cannot update it again. -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "Carrie" wrote: My "Auto updates" are off, but the TOC is still updating before printing and as far as I know I have all of the updating options off. Stefan,
Thanks so much for the info - just what I needed. Actually I am attempting to link a central TOC (in the Main Document) to many different documents and haven't been able to figure out a way except for creating the TOCs in each indivudual documents and then copying and pasting into the central document. Do you know of any other way - I would love to link the TOCs to update the main TOC but not sure if this is even possible! Thanks again for your help!
