Default Limiting Style choices in drop-down list?

I have a user who wants to limit the selection-choices of their style types
(drop-down list) to a specific list. By style types, I mean "Heading 1",
"Heading 2", "Bullet 1", etc. The user wants a "template" document with JUST
a small list of available style types, rather than the 30+ they have right
now. How can I do that please?

Thanks!!

Hi Dennis

I'm not sure whether you want to:
(a) change the *display* of the Styles and Formatting Pane to show only the
styles you want
or
(b) prevent a user from using styles other than ones you choose.

If (a), then you need Word 2002 or Word 2003. If (b) you need Word 2003.

In either case, here are the steps:

1. File New and choose to create a template. Save it.

2. If you have styles in an existing document or template that you want to
use, do Tools Templates and Add-ins Organizer. Use the Organizer to copy
the styles from your existing document or template to the new template.

3. Back in the new template, make whatever changes you need to the styles.
For information on modifying styles, see
How to modify styles in Microsoft Word
http://www.ShaunaKelly.com/word/styl...ifyAStyle.html

4. Tools Options. On the Edit tab, un-tick "Keep track of formatting".

5. If you want to change the display of styles to those you chose, then
Format Styles and Formatting. In the Show list at the bottom of the box,
click Custom. Make your choices. Tick "Save settings in template" and click
OK.

6. If you want to prevent the user from using other styles, Tools Protect
Document. In the Protect Document pane, tick "Limit formatting to a
selection of styles", click Settings and make your choices.

7. Save the template again.

To use the template to create a new document, File New and choose your
template.

Hope this helps.

This is relatively easy in Word 2002/2003, harder in previous versions. What
version does the user have?

User has Office XP (2002). And yes, I want to limit the entries displayed on
the drop-down menu to specific ones.

In that case, choose Custom at the bottom of the Styles & Formatting task
pane and select the fonts to be displayed. I believe there's more at
