Word should have sections accessible through tabbed interface
Our environmental consulting company uses Microsoft Word extensively to
prepare various large and complex reports and environmental impact statements that are distributed to clients and various levels of government. Keeping track of, navigating through, and formatting the many sections and section breaks could be improved by implementing a tabbed document interface. Just as Microsoft Excel has sheet tabs, Word could have Section tabs. Tabs could be named and/or numbered. Section breaks should also display section number in page layout view -- not just when working with headers and footers. To see the tabs, the user can switch to "Section Layout View". Changing the order of the tabs by dragging and dropping moves the corresponding sections within the document. If no sections exist in a Word document, then obviously no tabs would appear in Section Layout View. ---------------- This post is a suggestion for Microsoft, and Microsoft responds to the suggestions with the most votes. This is a common request. To mitigate the need for it in the meantime, you
could use Outline View, which will enable some small pieces of what you are asking for. http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Format...singOLView.htm On 5/3/05 8:09 PM, "Dirk" wrote: Our environmental consulting company uses Microsoft Word extensively to prepare various large and complex reports and environmental impact statements that are distributed to clients and various levels of government. I have windows XP I can't find a way to dislay page breaks in WORD the "show
formatting" check box options does not include "page breaks" in the list. I can't remember where I placed breaks and can only see them by printing or repeatedly going to print preview. It's time consuming and frustrating "Dirk" wrote: Our environmental consulting company uses Microsoft Word extensively to prepare various large and complex reports and environmental impact statements that are distributed to clients and various levels of government. Hi, Dirk.
1. You can display page breaks by choosing ALL under the view settings. You may not see your page breaks if you, for instance, have the paragraph right-aligned, or at the end of a line of text that goes all the way to the right (I always insert paragraph returns first and make sure they're left aligned so I can see them). 2. You can find page breaks using Edit--Find and hit the More and Special buttons. 3. The current section break is displayed in the status bar. ******************* ~Anne Troy www.OfficeArticles.com www.MyExpertsOnline.com "Ren" wrote in message ...
