Default How do I get rid of a pesky dot in between characters in word

I have been having this problem with my word 2003. After every word the
space in between is filled with a dot character. it has been frustarting to
say the least. I don't remeber what I di did , but I can't seem to stop this
form happening. Does anyone how there no how to fix this.

Nonprinting characters can be turned off and on by clicking ¶ in the
Standard toolbar. If that doesn't work, check the View settings in the
Tools | Options menu. See here for more info, and an explanation of how
nonprinting characters can be extremely useful:
