Default MS Word has old data when I open a new document - How do I clear?

I am running Microsoft Word 2000 on my computer. Somehow I have done
something to my Word program - when I open a new document - it brings up old
data automatically. How do I remove this old information, so that I have a
clean page when I open a new document.

Thank you,

Bob

From the FAQ:

28. My blank document has text in it - an old letter, etc. See
