password protecting a document for tracked changes
Hi all
In Word XP, you were able to set the 'track changes' option on a document so you could forward it onto a colleague for their input and then 'accept' or 'reject' the changes whenthe document was returned. However, there was also a function which allowed you to password protect the document, so if your colleague tried to remove the tracking whilst they were working on it, it would prompt them for a password first. I am now working with Office 2003 and cannot find the same facility. I realise that the Protect Document dialog box no longer exists as we are now having to use the task bar, but as the password option been removed altogether? Can anybody help? Thank you. Louise |

Hi Louise
The password option that existed in Word 2002 has indeed been removed, and has been replaced by a more sophisticated protection system. Try Tools Protect Document. In the second section of the task pane, you can protect the document so that all a user's edits will be marked as tracked changes. Then, click "Start enforcing protection" and you will be prompted for an optional password. You can then route the document in the usual way. A user will only be able to turn off the protection if he or she has the password. Hope this helps. Shauna Kelly. Microsoft MVP. http://www.shaunakelly.com/word "Louise" wrote in message ... Hello again!
I have encountered another problem. I have changed the second part of the Protect Document task pane so all changes will be tracked but when I try to click onto Start Enforcing Protection, it's greyed out? Where have I gone wrong?? THanks again. Louise "Shauna Kelly" wrote: Hi Louise The password option that existed in Word 2002 has indeed been removed, and has been replaced by a more sophisticated protection system. Hi Louise
Within the Protect Document pane, you must: 1. Tick "Allow only this type of editing" 2. Choose "Tracked changes" from the list. 3. Click "Yes, Start Enforcing Protection" 4. In the resulting dialog box, add a password if you choose. Does that work? Hope this helps. Shauna Kelly. Microsoft MVP. http://www.shaunakelly.com/word "Louise" wrote in message ... Hello again! That's what i've done but for some reason, on one of my documents, the option
for 'Yes, start enforcing protection' is greyed out but it works fine on other documents. It must be something I've done without realising. Thanks any way.
