Default check box style

I have a form with a few check boxes on it. The form will be filled out
mainly in Word (though it could be sometimes printed). I inserted the check
boxes from the Form toolbar.

I would like to know if there is a way to chanche the stile of the check
boxes (from plain squared with a thin cross, to something a little more
elaborated like a check mark). I found a few suggestions involving macros,
but compatibility with older versions of Word is a must, so I would like to
avoid this kind of trouble.

Thank you for your suggestions.

No, the check box form field cannot be modified. But the MacroButton
solution works across all versions back to Word 97. See

Forms toolbar checkboxes can only be completed with an X. However, there are
a number of ways to create and use clickable checkboxes in documents /
templates. Some require protected or locked forms, others do not. Take a
look at the Checkbox template available at
http://www.addbalance.com/word/downl...#CheckboxAddIn for an exploration
of these.
