Default TOC word wrapping problem

Hello:

I have a TOC field in document to automatically generate table of content
with page number. But when I have longer index content, the content extend
all the way to the end and aligned with the page number. Is there anyway I
can tell word to use space to align page number and go to next line to finish
the content?

Current:

Short index content ...........................1
Long index content that occupy the page
number spot......................................2

Prefer:

Short index content ...........................1
Long index content that occupy the
page number spot..............................2

Thanks in advance for your help.

Add a right indent (0.5" to 1") to your TOC styles, leaving the tab stop at
the right margin. This will cause the text to wrap short of the page
numbers.

The right indent works great! But I noticed right after I apply the change,
the dotted line "----" between content and number is gone. I try to get the
line back by adding different option to field code but couldn't make it
happen so far. The field code is "{TOC \T "SPECHEAD1,1}". Any suggestion is
very appreciated!

Regards,
Lisa

It's possible that when you moved the margin marker, you lost the right tab
stop at the right margin. Try putting it back. If that doesn't help,
right-click on the TOC and choose Edit field, then recheck the box for
"Right-align page numbers" and reselect the desired tab leader.
