Default How do I get dete a line composed of multiple ~ symbols?

I made a line by repeatedly hitting the ~ symbol. After ten or so ~ are in
the line, the line automatically fills the full width of the page.

Afterwards I discovered I cannot remove the line by blocking and hitting
delete or cut. How do I get rid of the line?
