Default can I use my Microsoft Word Program on 2 different Computers?

Can I use the same Word Program on 2 different computers? My friend wants to
borrow my CD, but it is registered to me and I was wondering if that would
creat a conflict with my program on my computer

It depends on the version. If it's Word 2000 or above, it will have to be
activated, which could get touchy. Your friend should certainly be advised
not to register the software even if he succeeds in installing it.

Depending on how you bought Word (or Office or Works that contain
Word), there are some licenses that permit use on two computers *if
you own both of them*. Just giving/lending the CD to your friend is
not allowed by any Microsoft license -- it's low-grade piracy.

That said, Office 2000 and earlier don't check to see how many times
you install the software. Later versions require activation or else
they eventually stop working. That involves the software sending its
identification to a Microsoft server, and if the usage isn't allowed
by the license, you won't get activation on the second (or whatever)
copy.

Tell your friend to look into buying either Works Suite containing
Word, or a Student & Teachers Edition. Both of them are reasonably
inexpensive ways to get Word. Your friend could also download a copy
of OpenOffice, which is free and can handle Word-formatted documents.

And then the 'friend' will copy it and pass it on to someone else, who in
turn will do the same and before long someone is going to get upset

Register or activate. If the latter, you may need to use phone activation.
