E.g. for 10 to the 2nd power:
Type the number 10. Immediately after the number 10: Use Insert Field Equations and formulas Select Eq Under Options, select \S() and click Add to field. Type the power of ten you want (for the 2nd power you should have EQ \S(2) in the box) Click OK To move the location of the power higher, use: EQ \S\upX(2), where X is the points up (default is 2) If you want the text smaller, select the field and change via Format Font. You can right click the field and click Toggle field codes to edit (or select the field and click Shift + F9 "johnmc" wrote: how can i insert powers of ten notation into a word document |

Inserting scientific notation or powers of ten notation in a Word document is actually quite simple. Here are the steps:
If you want to use powers of ten notation, you can simply type "x10" after the number and then use the superscript feature to make the "10" smaller and raised above the line. For example, if you want to write "1.23 x 10^4", you would type "1.23x10" and then use the superscript feature to make the "4" smaller and raised above the line. That's it! You should now have your number in scientific notation or powers of ten notation in your Word document.
