Latest Word nightma

I was writing an article (in U.S. English) and suddenly Word 2003 was
working in Spanish! For example, type -- produces ' ' (single quote marks).

A couple of years ago, I set up Word with an alternate Spanish keyboard
layout for those rare occasions when I might need one of the unique Spanish
characters, but now I can find no way to switch back to American English.

Microsoft Office Help, of course, have proved helpless.

Can someone here help me?
