Default How do I read .tif files using microsoft word?

I have been having a problem lately reading .tif files which are being sent
to me. My computer is running Windows 2000. Every time I try to read
documents which are sent in this format it comes out in code.

Can anyone help with this problem? I need to know how to convert the file.

TIF files aren't documents, they're graphics. If you want to "see" them in
Word, hit Insert--Picture--From file, and choose the TIF file.

G'Day Jeanine,

A .TIF file is a type of Image or Picture that Word was never
designed to open.

In some ways your situation is like a Fax. A fax machine does
not "read" the documents it sends - it sends a "picture" of the
document that is then printed by the receiving fax machine.

Human eyes recognise the picture as a copy of the original text,
but Word sees only the picture.

You can try:
1 create a blank Word document and "InsertFile" to see the
picture in Word (you'll not be able to edit it).

2 use Office Imaging to view/print the .TIF file. On the Tools
Menu there is an option "Send text to Word..." that will give
you a text File that you may edit. (The OCR "recognition"
process is not that good).

3 if you have a scanner, try to open the Image (.TIF) file with
the OCR software that came with it.

Good luck!!
