Are you changing the extension? If so, then you could cause problems. If you
rename a .doc file a .pdf and try to open it, your computer will try to open Reader, not Word. This is not an Office feature/warning. It's a Windows thing. -- JoAnn Paules MVP Microsoft [Publisher] "asfisher" wrote in message ... when i save document and then try to rename it i get error message. Where/how are you trying to rename this file? Since you don't know *if* you
are, then I can tell you that you *are*. -- JoAnn Paules MVP Microsoft [Publisher] "asfisher" wrote in message ... how do i know if i am or not. how do i change it? It sounds as if you don't have file extensions displayed. This is
inadvisable (and in some cases dangerous). In Windows Explorer, go to Tools | Folder Options | View and clear the check box for "Hide file extensions for known file types." Then, when you are changing a filename in an Explorer window (this includes Word's Open dialog), be careful not to change or delete the file extension. -- Suzanne S.
