I hold down a key while writing text in order to repeat that character. It
stops repeating on it's own and in order to continue the repeating process I
have to release the depress the key. This Halting is also manifesting itself
in games; of which this is my first time "Gaming". It's pretty hard to get
excited about a game when you spend most of your time releasing/depressing
direction keys in order to move about the screen

This is a Windows setting (Control Panel | Keyboard), nothing to do with
Word.
