When I select print, the document goes to the toolbar, when I click on the
document in the toolbar, then the print selector only comes up. Only happens
on some of my documents. This as opposed to the document staying in the
background and the print selector being the top window. What settings quirk
might these documents have?

If you are using Norton AntiVirus, disable its Office Plug-in.
