I need to make a section of my WORD2000 document landscape format.
In page setup I click on the page layout for the section, but I always get a message that "Settings you chose for the left and right margins, column spacing, or paragraph indents are too large for the page width in some sections." I don't really understand what is triggering this. I am converting a section from portrait to landscape, so the page is getting wider. I've tried adjusting the settings, but have not found the magic formula yet. Any ideas? |

This bogus message can result from a bug in the Columns dialog. Go to Format
| Columns, click the button for One (even if it appears to be selected already), and make sure it applies to "Whole document." This activates the "Equal column width" check box, which (by being unchecked) is the cause of the problem. This bug has been fixed in recent versions of Word (and older ones by some SP, I think), but if you are subject to it, then don't ever use the Columns button on the Formatting toolbar (though it is convenient) but always the Format | Columns dialog, making sure that "Equal column width" is checked unless you are intentionally making uneven columns. -- Suzanne S. This worked really well - spot on advice. Thanks a lot.

Glad it helped. I'm never sure in these situations whether it's really the
columns bug or something else I've forgotten about! -- Suzanne S.
