I'm trying to find out what the maximum length for an auto text entry is.
Can anyone give me a word or character count for this? |

I am not aware of one, Krista, but be aware that whatever you use will be
stored in your template, so if it's very big, then you could get yourself in trouble. ![]() ******************* ~Anne Troy www.OfficeArticles.com "Krista" wrote in message ... Can you clarify how having a large auto text entry could cause problems?

Autotext entries are stored in templates. If I make a document with 10
pages, and save it, an autotext entry that's 10 pages long will likely take up the same amount of space. So what I'm saying is that if you make 100 autotext entries that are one page long, it's like having a 100-page document stored in your template. If you explain why you're asking, we may be able to give you alternatives to autotext that'll work better for you. ******************* ~Anne Troy www.OfficeArticles.com "Krista" wrote in message ... The documented limit for any Word document or template is a total of
32 MB of text. There's no documented limit for graphic objects. There isn't any particular size that "could cause problems" other than making loading and editing progressively slower. What tends to cause problems -- mostly involving document corruption -- is complexity. Complicated nested tables, hundreds of section breaks, tons of direct (as opposed to style-based) formatting, and especially misuse of automatic paragraph numbering will invite trouble. Autotext is far down on that scale. -- Regards, Jay Freedman Microsoft Word MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org On Mon, 18 Jul 2005 18:20:02 -0700, Krista wrote: Can you clarify how having a large auto text entry could cause problems? Hi Anne,
Thanks for the additional info - the initial request was more for my informaiton than anything. Sort of along the lines of how many rows are there in Excel? Just wondered what the boundaries of AutoText might be. "Anne Troy" wrote: Autotext entries are stored in templates.
