Default Different characteristics for letters of same font

In a document i chose the font Heading 1 + left for chapters , so i
have chapter 1, chapter 2..., i have titles below those lines,
though i use the same font for all, for some chapters the difference
between the line "chapter x" and the title is more than in other cases,

also for these lines when i generate the TOC, i get two lines e.g.,
"chapter 1................1
Background...............1"
for others i get in one line e.g., "chapter 2 Introduction......"
can i know why this might be happening?

Hi tiro-

First, there is absolutely *nothing* to be gained by posting the same
request 4 separate times in 10 minutes. In fact, it is conterproductive to do
so. If you need to elaborate further or reword your posting, reply to your
own first message in order to keep everything in the same thread.

Second, Heading 1 is a *Style*, not a font. More specifically, it is a
Paragraph Style which does include font formatting as well as Paragraph
formatting.

Finally, it sounds as though you have some chapter headings & titles that
have been typed as a single paragraph but has been forced to wrap to a second
line (perhaps using Shift+Enter after typing "Chapter X"). This would account
for both of your problems. (Although you don't mention it, the 'titles'
either are or were formatted the same as the chapter numbers.)

The difference in spacing is due to the Heading 1 Style (which includes
Space Before/After) being applied to 2 lines in some places but only 1 line
in others.

Since your chapter/title 2-line paragraphs are formatted with the Heading 1
Style, that would account for the combination of both lines as a single entry
in the TOC.

If you get you doc structure & formatting corrected, the TOC will also be
fixed when regenerated.

Anyhow, the problem got solved, thanks for the reply,
