I use word 97 and I can save protected *.doc files with password. They are
protected for editing. After that wnen I try to open the files, a small window appears with two buttons. One button is for opening the file with password for editing. The other button is for read-only mode. I can open the file with password. But when I click on the read-only button, I receive an error. I can not open protected files with word 97 in read only mode. Please help ! |

It's been a long time, but this was an issue that I think had something to
do with either too much available space on the hard disk to too much memory. It was probably the former and could be overcome by creating a large swap file on the harddisk. -- Hope this helps.
