Default Update Word 6.0

I have Word 6.0 at home. I have Windows XP. Is there a way I can update this
program with spending big bucks on a new program.

Thanks, Jeanne

At this point Word 6.0 is five versions back (Word for Windows 95, Word 97,
2000, 2002, and 2003), so upgrading will be a shock, but any system that can
run Windows XP can certainly run Word 2003. But Office/Word 2003 will cost
you serious bucks unless you qualify for Office Standard for Students and
Teachers. The most affordable way to acquire Word is to buy Works Suite
2005, which includes Word 2002 (just one version back) as well as five other
useful programs (Works, Encarta, Money, PictureIt!, and Streets & Trips).
The street price is less than $90 ($89 at Amazon, with free shipping), and a
$20 mail-in rebate is in effect through January 1, 2006, reducing the
effective price to less than $70. See

Hi Jeanne,

You can buy Word 2000 (two versions back from the current Word 2003)
or Word 2002 (one version back) pretty inexpensively. For example,
Works Suite 2004, which includes Word 2002, is going routinely on EBay
for about $25 to $30 plus shipping -- for example,

Thank you both, I never would have thought to look on Amazon or E-Bay.
