Will mutations ever cease?

Out of the clear-blue, all of a sudden my Word menus all deploy with 50%
transparency. It was not doing that a few days ago. Weeks ago, I had set
(somewhere in the windows catacombs) the parameter of transparent
dragging, which I feel is vital, but none other.

Can you advise of the parameter?

If you tell me to reinstall MS office again, I will scream!!! because
that brings back that GD pest, assistant.

Please advise on how to return the Word menus to be all opaque. (Excel
menus are still opaque OK.)
