Default How do I create a TOC document that references other documents?

I'm trying to create a table of contents document that will pick up the
headings from a number of other documents and generate a TOC from those
heading styles. I've gotten this far: { RD C:\\"My Documents\\My File.doc" }.
What am I missing and how do I update the fields?
