The personal dictionary is a text file (custom.dic). Open it and delete the
mis-spelled words. -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org Patti wrote: dictionary corrupted through repeated mis spelling how do I reset the basic dictionary? |

Hi Patti-
Not sure I understand your request, because incorrectly spelling words doesn't 'corrupt' the dictionary. If it is corrupted there must be some other problem. Do you mean that misspelled words have been added to the spellcheck so they are no longer recognized as being misspelled? If that is the case, those words are _not_ actually added to the main dictionary, itself, but to a Custom Dictonary. Go to ToolsOptions--Spelling & Grammar, click the Custom Dictionaries button & you will see a list of any Custom Dictionaries that have been created... probably just one. You have 3 basic options; 1- remove the check to leave it intact but unused, 2- select it, click Modify to delete all items or go through the list to just any erroneous entries (Shift+click & Ctrl+click work for multiple selections), or 3- select it and click Remove to remove it altogether. (The file will still be stored, just not used until you go back and Add it again. Note: You can't add any items unless you have at least one custom dictionary active.)
