What does 12 points of spacing before and 3 points of space after?

Spacing between this paragraph and the next. Points is a measurement of
type/font. 12 is the most commonly used. You can see an example of this paragraph spacing in Word's built-in Heading
1 style. In the Format Paragraph dialog, notice that Spacing Before is set to 12 and Spacing After to 3. One point equals 1/72 inch, so 12 points equals 1/6 inch, which is the same as typewriter "single" line spacing (6 lpi). An easy way to create a "blank line" between paragraphs is to use Ctrl+0 (zero) to add 12 points space before. -- Suzanne S.
