Default Saving word document

I made a slight amendment to one Word document created by another
party. I need to present the document, but noticed the file name (which
is printed on the bottom line of each sheet) no longer says .doc after
the file name. How can I adjust this?

The filename shows an extension or not depending on your Windows settings.
