Default Automating a boring task in word

I often have to send enewsletter-style mailings.
As you may be aware, to control display of plain text mailings it is a
good idea to choose a fixed width margin and force this by entering
hard returns at the end of each line - a space and carriage return -
where the text wraps in word.

The problem is that some of these mailings contain lengthy passages of
text and it is very frustrating to sit and format these manually.

Is anybody aware of a script that can be used to do this?
Or maybe an alternative to word that has benefits for writing
enewsletters?

Any help would be greatfully appreciated.

Why not just set the margins as needed and then save as text with line
breaks?
