Default File Access Problem

I can't open files on Office 2003, where I used to be able to do so.
Regardless of source, the error says Word (or Excel or Powerpoint) cannot
find the path specified. When I try to close the application I get a series
of errors saying I have made changes to the Normal in the global template. I
have uninstalled Office and re-installed with a hard re-boot to no avail. Any
ideas?

If you're using Symantec/Norton AntiVirus, try disabling the
Office Plugin that comes with it. See
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=329820 "How to use Office
programs with the Norton AntiVirus Office plug-in" for more
information.
