Default Word thinks input file is Access DB

I've done oodles of mail merges of every type using Excel files as input. All
of a suddent, when I select the Excel file of recipients, a window titled
Data LInk Connection is displayed. The software thinks I am trying to open an
Access file. But the file is an Excel spreadsheet. Rebooting did not help.
Shutting down did not help. I moved the file from my network to my hard drive
and that didn't help. I uninstalled Office and then reinstalled it. I ran
Repair Office from the admin tools. Can anyone tell me how to fix this?
Thanks,
Myrna

Default Word MAil Merge only works with Access File

I continued trying to resolve this problem. When I use an Access file as
input, it works like a charm. I was always able to use an Exel file as input.
I don't know what/why this changed. Can anyone give me any idea of what to do
to get this capability back?

Thanks,
Myrna
