Default Word AutoText doesn't work - list is empty

I am not able to make AutoText in Word work - when I click Insert --
AutoText, the categories are listed, but they're all empty. When I type in
an entry in a document that is listed in the AutoText dialog box, nothing
happens. Any suggestions?

You've almost certainly overwritten your normal.dot (which holds the default
AutoText entries). See
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/AppErr...ocNotBlank.htm. I keep my
AutoText elsewhere, in separate templates.

See http://addbalance.com/word/movetotemplate.htm for step-by-step
instructions on moving / sharing / copying / backing-up customizations
including AutoText, AutoCorrect, keyboard assignments, toolbars, macros,
etc.

The 1st link that Charles Kenyon gave me didn't work. I agree that I have
probably overwritten my normal.dot. Would reinstalling Word be an okay
solution? - Susan

The http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/AppErr...ocNotBlank.htm link works
fine for me. Reinstalling Word will not help because it doesn't touch
Normal.dot, which is what you need to deal with. If you find that this link
is not clickable, copy and paste it into your browser's address bar.
