Norton AV's Office Plug-in frequently allows dialog boxes to be opened
behind the currently open Window. Turn off that plug-in. -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org Tedward Smith wrote: I am not a user of microsoft office word. But when attempting to open attachments on certain e.mails I get the following message ...Heading " Microsoft Office Word" message detail The command cannot be performed because a dialogue box is open. The dialog box being referred to doesn't necessarily mean it is in Word. For
instance, if you have Outlook, or any other application, open and a dialog box is active, you have to close it before you can continue. The most common one is when you have Outlook open, the 'auto archive' dialog box appears on its own periodically, obviously asking you if you want to archive. You need to ensure that you have no dialogs open whatsoever in any application. Click the Desktop icon on your taskbar to hide "Everything".
The click each application's window icon on the task bar, to reveal it. Any application that is displaying a dialog will appear with its dialog in front of it. If you do not see a dialog, click the task bar icon again to hide that application, then do the next application. Eventually, you will find it. I know that Windows has improved to the point where you can now leave dozens of unused applications and documents scattered around for weeks at a time. But each one is consuming memory, disk space, and processing power. Your system will run faster and more reliably if you keep the habit of old of closing each application as you finish with it. :-) Cheers On 18/11/05 6:49 PM, in article , "Tedward Smith" Tedward wrote: I am not a user of microsoft office word. But when attempting to open attachments on certain e.mails I get the following message ...Heading " Microsoft Office Word" message detail The command cannot be performed because a dialogue box is open.
