I've been trying to debug a custom template file for days, i.e., in my
template, I have created a style for tables, and I set it up to be the default table style for all docs created from this template. When I open a doc based on this template and create a table in a doc based on the template, the style that is applied to the table is the style present at the cursor where I insert the table. For example, if TITLE style is present at the cursor where I insert the table, then the table takes on TITLE style. If heading 5 style is present at the cursor where I insert the table, then the table takes on heading 5 style. Word just ignores (or appears to ignroe) the font, font size, etc) associated with the table style Any ideas? thanks |

What happens if you select the table and press Ctrl+Q?

Nothing. I expect this because Ctrl-Q removes paragraph formatting
applied by shortcut keys and menu commands, and I am using only styles I found another "table" bug. Have you ever used "Don't add space between paragraphs of the same style" (See http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/as...353711033.aspx)? It is a handy feature that you can use to create lists. Basically, you create a style whose "style type" is paragraph, then you include numbering settings to make this paragrpah behave like a list (bullets, numbers). Under the Paragraph formatting for this style, you set a "space before" and a "space after" and click on "Don't add space between paragraphs of the same style". If you then create a list using this style surrounded by regular paragraphs, you will get equal spacing before and after the list, but no spacing between list elements: This is the first paragraph space before as defined in style list item 1 list item 2 list item 3 space after as defined in style This is the second paragraph This all works great if you have this in the body of a doucment, but if you have the same thing in a table cell, spacing apepars between the list elements. Its as though the "Don't add space between paragraphs of the same style" setting is being ignored Thoughts? Thanks |

Unfortunately, many things are ignored in tables, and table styles in
particular seem to be an inadequately executed design concept. It is to be hoped that a future version of Word will take table styles one step further and allow users to specify styles (rather than just formatting) for specific rows, columns, and cells. -- Suzanne S.
