Default how can i make a document in word read only

i unlocked a doc and now i need to lock it back so it is a read only file

Assuming you are using Word 2003, go to the menu bar and click Tools,
Protect Document. This will open a dialog frame (most likely on the
right-hand side of your document). Then, under section (2) "Editing
Restrictions", select the "No changes (Read Only)" option, then click the
"Start Enforcing Protection" button under section (3). You will be prompted
tro enter a password, or, alternatively, slect User Authentication. Click OK
and you're done!
