Default top of page not seen

I usually keep my view in page layout view. For some reason, when I start
now, the top of the page butts up right to the top ruler. The left ruler
starts with 0 and goes down, but both the margins for top and the preview
indicate that there is an inch or so there. I used to see that inch on the
ruler as a blue shaded region, before the ruler would show the white area
which indicated the writeable area.

Any ideas of what I can do to get my view back to how it used to be?

Thx.

Move your cursor to the very edge. It will change from an arrow to a square
with a dark line across the center. Click. :-)

(I have to thank Suzanne for showing me that several months ago. It was
happening to me and I didn't know why. I searched the archives of this group
and found her advice. I was going bonkers trying to figure out what the heck
happened to my margins.)

so what is it that happened? It worked to fix, but what causes it, out of
curiosity.

and one more question...it fixed the problem initially, but it's still there
when I closed and reopened. Any way to save the change?

You clicked at the wrong moment - same as I did. And you never realized what
you did - and neither did I. :-)

This is a rather sensitive toggle setting. If you click in the areas above
or below the 'page' you will toggle the setting, which remains so set until
you click it again. You can force Word to open with the preferred display by
using auto macros.

Add the line

ActiveWindow.View.DisplayPageBoundaries = True

to both an autonew and an autoopen macro and then at least it will start
with the headers displayed.
