Protected and unprotected sections
I have a document that needs to have forms at the top, and a section at the
bottom that can be freely edited. I've created two sections. I'm trying to figure out how to protect just the top (so the forms work), but have the bottom editable. How do you protect just one section? A message here from 2003 said that you can go to "tools/protect document/sections and uncheck the sections you want to have free for text entry, only the checked section(s) will have the 'forms protection'." In my version of Word (2003), there is no "tools/protect document/sections." Any help is appreciated. |

In Word 2002 and 2003, that command opens the Protect Document task pane. Check the box for "Allow only this type of editing". The dropdown becomes enabled; select "Filling in forms". When you do, a blue link "Select sections..." appears below the dropdown. Click that link to open the Sections dialog, where you can uncheck the Section 2 box. When you close that dialog, click the "Yes, Start Enforcing Protection" button, enter a password if desired, and save. -- Regards, Jay Freedman Microsoft Word MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org Email cannot be acknowledged; please post all follow-ups to the newsgroup so all may benefit. |
